Home Maintenance Tips Keeping Your Air Conditioning in Top Working Condition

One thing that all Quincy Homes should have during the hot season is a good air conditioning unit. In order to keep your unit in top working performance several maintenance tips can significantly improve functionality and your health! One thing you will want to look for when troubleshooting your air conditioning is if the condensing coil is level. If your unit is outside on the perimeter of your home simple do a visual inspection or use a level to determine if the unit needs to be adjusted.
This unit is the most important piece of your air conditioning system. Unlevel units may be indicative of inadequate A/C flow. When the whole unit shifts the coils inside may become unaligned at their connectors and leak energy. The blades on the unit need to be cleaned regularly to prevent dust built up. This is an easy task that usually can be performed by removing the top blade shield.
If the filters themselves are dirty than you will definitely want to get them cleaned. If you do it yourself make sure you use proper procedures and pay attention to not bending the filter. A bent filter will cost you significant monthly energy loss. Overall proper A/C maintenance does not just end with the condensing unit. The ducting system is almost equally important in maintaining a healthy A/C system.
Some Quincy homes and Newton homes were built back so long ago that the ducting system has started to collapse underneath the home. Ducting should not be allowed to touch the ground. If the tubes are resting on the ground consider installing more fasteners for support. Not only does the ground have the potential of causing faster deterioration, but dust may easily enter the ducting tubs.
If your home is on a raised foundation you may want to check the tubes during a yearly or bi-yearly inspection. If the tubes appear to have dust and dirt inside you will want to clean and make sure there are no openings or loose fitting connectors. If you are thinking about cleaning the tubes yourself make sure to take care in not puncturing the walls or insulation of the tubes.
